Upper School Field Studies Curriculum

The Field Studies program expands the learning environment well beyond the physical boundaries of the classroom by going into the community and bringing the community - through visiting experts - into the classroom. Field Studies is woven into the curricula of all Upper School departments with faculty from each department planning regular expeditions. By partnering with cultural, historical, scientific and arts organizations in the New York City area, students engage with experts and others in a variety of contexts. A Field Studies program is more interactive than a field trip and students learn to be active, hands-on-learners wherever they go. The program topics and destinations are drawn directly from classroom curricula or arise as an opportunity to take advantage of special opportunities and events. New York City is one of the world's great resources for students, offering countless museums, cultural institutions and a wide range of ethnic neighborhoods.
