Graduation Requirements

The following anticipated graduation requirements are consistent with rigorous mainstream schools as well as institutions who serve students with learning disabilities.

Also required: Ethics/Quakerism/World Religions, Health/Social and Emotional Curriculum, Physical Education, Community Service, Technology. Spanish and American Sign Language are also offered.

In addition, an experiential education program entitled Field Studies will be interwoven throughout the Upper School curriculum, utilizing the rich educational, environmental and cultural resources of the borough, city, nation and world.

General study skills and content specific skills will be at the center of the Upper School program. Furthermore, because Mary McDowell students exhibit a wide range of learning challenges and strengths, the curriculum and methods of instruction will remain highly individualized.

Core courses in each department of the Upper School will be augmented by elective classes when appropriate. In addition, the school will offer a rich array of extra-curricular activities as well as athletic and artistic after school opportunities.
