Responding to the Whole Community

The Mary McDowell Teaching and Learning Center offers other outreach programs to the metropolitan area community, including an annual Adventures in Math and Science, a unique community event in which students from mainstream and special education settings learn, explore and create together. This popular community event, which takes place every winter, gives students and their adult partners the opportunity to participate in exciting, hands-on workshops led by outstanding teachers from the Center and educators from neighboring schools and museums in the tri-state area.

Each fall, the Center sponsors a Prominent Speaker Forum for professionals, parents, and the general public. This event brings respected scholars and clinicians to Brooklyn to discuss timely and pressing issues in education. Past speakers have included Robert B. Brooks, Bob Greenleaf, Edward Hallowell, Harold Koplewicz, Rick Lavoie, Larry Silver, Rachel Simmons, Priscilla Vail, and Robert Evans.
