Resources to Enhance Learning
Mary McDowell Friends School is committed to giving students the benefit of the latest technologies and educational tools, continually investing in strategies to enhance their learning.
Technology
To augment the youngsters' academic skills and capabilities, MMFS has worked to create a model, state-of-the-art program,

including a school-wide computer network capable of offering computer access in all classroom. Computers are especially useful for students with grapho-motor issues, often enabling them to communicate more freely in written language. Internet access, educational software and adaptive computer hardware
devices offer the potential to enhance curriculum across all subject areas. Among the other tools used to support teaching and learning are SMART Boards, data processors and various multi-media applications.
Library
Central to a culture of literacy at MMFS, students are offered books, periodicals, videos, books-on-tape, and other materials that are specially coded to optimize accessibility for students with learning disabilities. The library collection is geared to reading levels to enhance usability and foster student independence in selecting materials. To develop library skills, a full-time librarian works closely with all students, starting with the youngest. The library is a work in progress and, is continuously being honed and expanded to meet the needs of the students.
Play Space
The 20 Bergen Street location offers a number of spaces where students can engage in imaginative play and physical activities both individually and in groups. The play yard is equipped with a rock-climbing wall and apparatus designed to build upper body strength. The rooftop

playground offers basketball hoops and a volleyball net for more formalized sports activities - as well as beautiful views of New York City's majestic harbor and skyline and the Statue of Liberty.
Camp Marmac
A two-week, trip-based program is available exclusively to our students, following the end of the school year. It bridges the gap between the independent and public school calendars. Using New York City and its surroundings as its 'camp site'. Camp Marmac fills the children's days with as many adventures as the mini-program allows.
