Services to Meet Individual Needs
In order to respond thoroughly to each student's particular learning disability, therapeutic support is woven into the school day. Language therapists and occupational therapists work closely with students and in tandem with classroom teachers to ensure the services they provide are well
integrated with curricular activities. MMFS also has staff psychologists who meet with teachers, parents and students as needs arise.
Language Therapy
Language therapists work with most students in the classroom once a week and in small groups twice a week to help them develop language skills. All classrooms and therapists' rooms are outfitted with a Sound Field FM Amplification system, which decreases extraneous background noise and minimizes distractions. Under the therapist's guidance, students also work with educational computer software, designed to address language and auditory difficulties.
Middle school students, who require language therapy, participate in small group sessions with a language therapist, focusing on expressive and receptive language skills, retrieval, memory,
organization and pragmatics.
Occupational Therapy
Students receive occupational therapy in a specially outfitted room, working in pairs with equipment designed to strengthen muscle tone, improve balance, enhance handwriting skills and build fine and gross motor skills. Occupational therapists work with students in the classroom as well as with teachers to implement physical support for students in their classrooms. Therapeutic typing support is offered for students who need it.
