Employment at Mary McDowell Friends School
Here at the Mary McDowell Friends School, three aspects of who we are help to establish the community in which we 'live' in as a whole. Our community is defined through our identity as a Quaker school for students with learning disabilities located in Brooklyn, NY. As educators, we believe we are seen as leading by example among schools for students with learning disabilities as well as the broader educational community.
Equally important to the defining of our community is our foundation in Quaker testimonies. As a Quaker school, we strongly value and emphasize the importance of active membership in the community. Following one of the testimonies, we are committed to community service and engage in ongoing acts of service both locally and globally that involve our staff and families throughout the year. We look to support those in need - from a canned food drive to an animal shelter in Brooklyn to our sister school in Uganda, we seek to strengthen our connection to the Quaker community and to educate our students about the Quaker testimonies such that they may internalize these values so they become active members of their communities.
Mary McDowell Friends School is committed to fostering unity while encouraging individual expression. We seek to create and nurture diversity in all facets of school life. The school is committed to recruiting employees of diverse ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, and religion and dedicated to attracting a faculty which embodies respect for individual differences.
